Conditions of Entry

  1. To enter the Grand Final of the Young Horticulturist of the Year participants must be 30 years of age or under on 31 December 2019, must have at least three years practical, hands on experience and be currently working full time in the horticultural industry in the sector in which they are entering the competition. 
  2. To enter the competition an entry form must be completed by each participant and posted, emailed or handed into the respective industry organisations by the close off for applications.  Details on how to obtain an application form are listed on the home page.
  3. Entry criteria for participants wishing to enter a sector competition are at the discretion of each horticultural sector organisation.
  4. To enter the Young Horticulturist of the Year competition participants must be a New Zealand citizen or hold a current New Zealand residency permit.
  5. Sectors must notify the event manager who will represent their sector in the competition Grand Final no later than Friday 29 August 2019.
  6. If a sector winner chooses not to progress through to the Grand Final,  the sector association may at their discretion nominate an alternative entrant.
  7. Young Horticulturist of the Year finalists must be available to attend the AGMARDT Market Innovation Project orientation seminar on 5 September in Auckland and the Grand Final activities on November 13 and 14, 2019. 
  8. The entrant agrees that they will make himself/herself available to compete in the Grand Final under the rules and conditions of entry applicable to the Grand Final event.
  9. The entrant agrees at all times to abide by the rules and conditions as laid down by the competition organisers.
  10. All entrants must be familiar with and comply with health and safety issues associated with practical horticultural activities during the competition.
  11. The Judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  12. All prizes must be accepted as given, they are not redeemable for cash or other products or services. Travel must be booked and commenced  no later than 18 months after the final of the competition.
  13. The winner of the Young Horticulturist Competition will be expected to be available for promotional purposes and give interviews as required to the media at the event and for the following twelve months.
  14. The trophy gifted to the winner by the RNZIH Education Trust in conjunction with the sponsors of the competition sponsors remains the property of the winner.
  15. All sector finalists must be aware that photos taken of them competing during the Grand Final may be used for promotional purposes to support the competition after the event.
